My Bloody Valentine...

...is the name of a great mournful band from the '90s. And the Heartless Bastards are also on my iPod today.

Yes, I'm feeling particularly crabby b/c it is Val Day. Come on, you didn't come here expecting me of all people to be in a good mood today?

What really bugs me, in a nutshell:

--involving children in the VD celebrations
--having them exchange cards when they haven't the faintest clue what the heck they are doing
--having to go and make said cards for school
--having stupid arguments with Crabhub over why he has decided to go to Crabtot's class VD party bearing lollipops
--feeling that, somehow, this holiday is rotten to the core
--feeling the cheeseball factor of a million declarations of utterly false love fluttering through mailboxes everywhere
--feeling that even the loathing of VD is cheesy and obvious and that I am stereotyping my Crabmommy self even as I type this
--but really, what a crock.

For a slightly more extended version of this conversation you can go here. For a protracted one, you can go back here, to the second-ever post on this blog, exactly a year ago. I feel the same way this year that I felt then. Thankfully I have learned to edit my posts a tad since then.

What about you? Digging or loathing VD?

you know, i didn't start hating VDay until my son started preschool. i mean, i like any excuse to buy a sappy card for a loved one, but having to buy him spiderman VDay cards and then addressing each one - with minimal effort, only glancing at the class roster - is useless. and the room parent organized a party today. i have to work and would rather poke my eyes out with fiery sticks than be "that mom". i'll simply settle for my son coming home on a severe sugar high...

i can't stand valentines day!! it's a glorified hallmark holiday where restaurants jack up the prices on a gross fixed menu, flowers are double the price, i hate chocolate and...i think it's flat out stupid!
i buy little things for my kids...i don't think they all need to start out their lives, mimicking my negativity!!

my favorite part of valentine's day is saying "Happy V.D.!" and then snickering.

I am such a 12-year-old.

Boy oh boy...so, my daughter is 11 months old, and I didn't even THINK that I needed to start this VDay nonsense in daycare at this age. My husband came home this afternoon with my daughter in one hand and a bag full of valentines in the other. The creepiest part is that some of the kids actually scribbled their "names" on the cards with their mom's translation in parentheses underneath. No kids got valentines from my kid. I shall hold my head in shame as I walk through daycare tomorrow. But really...INFANTS?????

Jill, I feel your pain. That this should start in the infant room is painful. And sadly, typical from what I can see across our fair nation. Puke, puke.

Speaking of puke and infants...funny that those who claim to love you on VD would blithely vomit on you without any qualms...Hmmmmm.

Crock.

There was a balloon-twister guy outside the railway station here in Sydney yesterday making Balloon roses and selling them for $3 a pop (pun intended).

Need I say more?

One girl in my son's class made cards that said things like, "Happy Valentine bla bla bla bla bla," "I don't like Valentines," and "Valentines are dirt."

Currently not a big V-Day fan. The kiddy stuff is a little over the top for me.
